Main Plot- Holling gets on the varsity cross country team. The US launches Operation Pegasus to save troops at Khesahn. Mrs Sidman becomes the Superintendant. Meryl Lee worries she will have to move because her father's company is failing. Martin Luther King is assasinated. On Opening day at Yankee Stadium Holling and friends are going to the game but his father never comes to pick him up. Mrs Baker comes to the rescue & takes him herself. The boys get a tour of the stadium from Horace Clarke and Joe Pepitone. Mrs Baker is "that chick in Melbourne" from the Olympic. Cross country race= Danny gets beat up for coming in ahead of the 8th graders. Holling wins the varsity race for Danny.
What does he learn? Holling continues to be disapointed in the way his father acts, he continues to lets Holling down. Holling also learns the importance of friendship.
